Kehoe's April Commercial Property News

You have no doubt been following the media reports in relation to the property market of late. It is difficult to form an opinion of the economic outlook at the moment given the wide ranging views that are in evidence at the moment. However, taking a purely Carlow perspective on the property market, it is hard not to be reasonably optimistic given the good stories around Carlow of late.

  • The N9/N10 Carlow bypass is scheduled to complete in Q3/2008 (and by all accounts, it is on schedule).;
  • The announcement that Merck & Co. plan to create 170 high quality jobs for Carlow town by 2011. Merck & Co. is the global healthcare company and seventh largest pharmaceutical company in the world. It plans to invest €200 million to develop its strategic vaccine facility in Carlow Town.;
  • The US-based company Unum, the industry leader in employee benefits and the largest provider of group and individual disability income protection insurance in the US and the UK, is to establish a strategic software service centre in Carlow town. The new investment will create up to 200 new high-level jobs.

All these stories represent significant investments and will lead to high quality employment creation for the town and county, leading to an inevitable multiplier effect for our region. Carlow’s improving location in the context of its improving infrastructure is significant and bodes well for the town and county in the near future.

Make no mistake about it! There are plenty of opportunities out there for business to build value and equity in the near term.
